RCS Food Bank History PDF Print E-mail

The RCS Food Bank's heritage dates back to the 1960's when congregations individually maintained a modest food closet to help support the hungry coming to their doorsteps. When RCS was initially formed in the 1960's the founding congregations decided to pool their food resources to better meet the needs of the growing numbers.

Starting with the dispensing of primarily government surplus foods out of a small dirt floor facility, the RCS Food Bank is now housed in a massive warehouse at 700 Druid Road in Clearwater, Florida. The scope of the RCS Food Bank's contributions to feed the hungry is directly related to the dedication and support of many Pinellas organizations and teams of dedicated volunteers. Over 180 tons of staples are brought to the Food Bank each year by the Pinellas County Letter Carriers during their annual food drive. The area Boy Scouts, public schools children and philanthropic retail food chains are also major suppliers.
